Joint estimation of motion and illuminationvariations for coding of image

چکیده
This paper describes a new approach to the problem of motion estimation for the coding of image sequences. The goal is to obtain an eecient description (parametrization) of temporal variations between two successive images in a sequence. To achieve this we propose to use the standard hypothesis of luminance constancy along a motion trajectory simultaneously introducing a polynomial representation of illumination variations. The estimation process consists of two iteratively alternating stages: a region-based estimation of apparent 2D motion parameters and an estimation of 2D illumination variations. Such an approach reduces the residual reconstruction error after motion compensation due to improved estimation of motion parameters.

Motion estimation and compensation is an essential part of existing video coding systems. The mesh-based motion estimation (MME) produces smoother motion field, better subjective quality (free from blocking artifacts), and higher peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) in many cases, especially at low bitrate video communications, compared to the conventional block matching algorithm (BMA). Howev...

The goal of multi-frame Super Resolution (SR) is to fuse multiple Low Resolution (LR) images to produce one High Resolution (HR) image. The major challenge of classic SR approaches is accurate motion estimation between the frames. To handle this challenge, fuzzy motion estimation method has been proposed that replaces value of each pixel using the weighted averaging all its neighboring pixels i...
